Lots of people have asked me if it was worth to go to Kilimanjaro and I'm
not always sure what to answer. It did cost me quite a lot of money as you
can see from the budget and it was a fairly
short trip (about 10 days). If you have read the "Day
by day diary" you can see that the trekking was a bit harder than I expected it to be but I guess that
has something to do with my cold and the fact that I’m not used to the
high altitude. It was hard work getting to the top and when we were between Shira
and Barranco and when I was on the way up to Stella Point I did think “What
am I doing here”. At other times I just enjoyed myself and I realized that
it was quite an adventure. It was a challenge and I was of course a bit
afraid that I would fail. But I have to admit that it is quite satisfying to
know that I made it to Uhuru Peak and it is amazing to have been at 5895 meters above sea
level. When I came to the top I said that I will never ever do this again.
But people are funny that way. We have a pretty short memory and in the end
you only remember the good times of a trip like this. So you never
know…maybe I will go there again once in the future. I hope at least that my
experience can help others when planning a trip to Kilimanjaro. On the next
page you will find a list of advice from me
to you.
